The Pennsylvania path, in short
At 16 your teen can get a learner's permit. Before the road test, under-18 drivers complete 65 supervised hours (including 10 at night and 5 in bad weather) and hold the permit at least 6 months. After passing, they get a junior license with night and passenger limits.

- 65 hours of supervised practice, parent-certified.

- Junior license with night and passenger limits until 18, or 17½ at the earliest with driver education and a clean year.
How many lessons does a teen need?
It depends on how much they practice at home, but most brand-new teen drivers do well with a multi-lesson package that builds from quiet streets up to busy roads and the test route. Many families choose our 5-Lesson Package (10 hours). We'll give an honest recommendation after the first lesson.
